A common language for AI
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that gives AI a shared way to communicate with other systems. A useful comparison is a universal plug. Until recently, connecting AI to a new system meant building a custom integration each time. With MCP, the same approach works across thousands of systems.
One point of control
If MCP is the universal plug, the Gateway is the fuse box. It gives you a single, controlled place to decide which systems your AI can reach and who has access to what. It also shows you what actually happens once those connections are in use.
Connections you configure in the Gateway work in both Ayfie Business Assistant and Ayfie Make, our agent builder. You set them up once and use them wherever you need them.
Choosing your connections
The Gateway gives you access to Ayfie's own connections as well as the wider MCP ecosystem. Because not every connection offers the same guarantees, we group them into three tiers:
Ayfie-developed connections are built on our own framework. We guarantee their compatibility and performance, and they are optimised for low usage.
Ayfie-verified connections are built by others, and we have tested and quality-assured them.
Unverified connections let you add almost any available MCP connection. We can't guarantee their quality or performance, but the choice is yours.
Less noise. Lower costs. Better answers.
Lower costs. When AI retrieves data, you pay for the amount of information it has to read. With Ayfie-developed and verified connections, the Gateway filters that information first, cleaning and sorting it so the AI receives only what is relevant. In our measurements, this has reduced usage by up to 80% compared with connections running outside the gateway.
Better answers. When the AI works with less irrelevant information, its answers tend to be more accurate, and they arrive sooner.
Visibility and control. You can see what was retrieved, when, and by whom. Access is managed in one place rather than spread across separate tools.
Security. Like the rest of the Ayfie platform, the Gateway can run in your own environment. Ayfie is ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 compliant.
Live data and your knowledge base
Different questions call for different sources. Some need the latest figures from a live system, such as today's order status. In those cases, the AI retrieves the data in real time through MCP. Other questions require searching across large volumes of documents. Ayfie Index is better suited to this, because the information is organised in advance and can be searched quickly.
Ayfie brings both approaches into one platform, and the AI uses whichever source best fits the task.
